The department of chemistry was established in the year 1961. Department offers a general course in B.Sc. along with its sister departments; Mathematics, Physics , Physiology and Zoology. Due to limitation of space, departmental laboratory is utilized by three colleges on a time sharing basis. This has so far kept the departmental academic scope rather limited but with acquisition of more space in near future, we look forward to introducing Honours in Chemistry. However, the infrastructural constraints have never stopped us from making efforts to bring the best to our students and to follow the path shown by Pandit Iswarchandra Vidyasagar, the founder of the College. At present department is served by two full time experienced teachers.

Departmental Resources

• In addition to college's central library, a well-equipped departmental Library with books for all the three years is present. Students can borrow books as and when required.
• There are two laboratories with all the necessary facilities.
• Students' presentations from topics related to syllabus are conducted.
• Students are encouraged to explore new areas of knowledge beyond regular syllabus oriented courses.
