According to the 1998 UGC Guidelines, college and universities must have a committee and a separate cell to deal for backward class students like SC/ST/OBC-A &OBC-B to assist and support. Adhering to it, the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Class Cell of Asutosh College was started in 2017. The SC, ST and Other Backward Class Cell of Vidyasagar Metropolitan College ensures equitable and accessible space of learning to its category and minority students. The Cell makes all efforts to empower these students. The Cell runs orientation programme and provides information on various scholarships provided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for the category students. The Cell provides special inputs in areas where the students experience difficulties. The Cell also organizes Talks and Seminars on the current issues to keep the students engaged and informed. to promote the special interests of students in the reserved category.
Objective:
To continuously monitor and implement the reservation policy of Governance of India and to comply with UGC regulation.
To provide special inputs in areas where these students experience difficulties.

To ascertain overall welfare of the backward students and motivate them to stand for their equal rights.
