The Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI Act-2005) was enacted by the Parliament and came into force on 15 June 2005. This legislation provides citizens with the right to access information under the control of public authorities, promoting transparency and accountability in their functioning. All universities and colleges established by law, whether by the Parliament, State Legislature, or through notification by the appropriate Government authority, and those substantially financed directly or indirectly by Government funds, fall within the purview of Public Authority under this Act. In accordance with the guidelines of the Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal, and the UGC, Vidyasagar Metropolitan College, Kolkata, implements the Right to Information Act, 2005.
