The Department of Commerce's journey traces back to the inception of Calcutta College of Commerce around 1920 at 29 Mirzapur Street. Recognizing the need for expansion, it merged with Vidyasagar College in 1922 as Commerce Department of the College. Despite initial challenges with university affiliation, perseverance led to recognition in 1928. Renowned for its pioneering approach, the department attracted students nationally, contributing significantly to its growth. Over time, it evolved into Vidyasagar Evening College in 1961. Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 1997, the department remains an essential part of the institution, offering robust academic and extracurricular programs.
